Bottles of every shape, size, color and design are floating around the world and determining what decides collectible bottles from all the rest is a subjective art. What one person may think of as collectible, another may think of as just a bottle.

While the price of collectible bottles seems to be rising, it is not escalating as quickly as some other collectibles such as coins, furniture and art. Part of this lagging behind may be based on the fact that other collectibles have specific names and places that make them more inviting to collectors.

Doll collectors, for example, may look specifically for early Barbie dolls while art collectors will go after a Monet. Items like these have a wide interest and a wide audience while collectible bottles may only be of interest to a small group of collectors.

Another disadvantage to collectible bottles is the quantity that was produced. A handcrafted sculpture by a famous sculptor, for example is usually one of a kind. There would be little room for dispute concerning its value. However, with the large quantity of bottles on the market, the desire to collect them may not be as high.

Start With One and Grow From There

Many folks that look for collectible bottles started with one style that was perhaps considered unique. Something in its design or color caught their eye at maybe a garage sale or flea market they picked up relatively cheap. It ended up on a shelf at home as a simple display until later they found another like it. Now there were two collectible bottles in the room.

As time goes on, different types of bottles may catch their fancy and it isn’t long before a bunch of different styles, colors or shapes sit on the shelf or in a display case and the collector realizes they really only want one specific style or color. Those become collectible bottles while the rest become garage sale items.

The price of collectible bottles basically is determined by the person collecting them and what they are willing to pay to complete, or add to, their collection. A bottle that fits in with other collectible bottles in a person’s collection will be worth more than others that do not.

Like most other collectibles, it’s value is determined by two main factors, how many of that item were produced and how many are left along with how much does someone really want that item.
